Research and Preservation Center for Local Potography in Israel- Aims

Aims of the Research & Preservation Center’s, Not-for-Profit Association (no. 58-038-660-5)

The not-for-profit association was established in January 2002. The association’s aims were the collection, research, preservation, digitization, exhibition and publicity of local photography, through the activities outline below:
1) To assemble - by acquisition, donation and all other means - and unite under one roof (below: “The Center”) the archives and collections, both historic and current, of private photographers who live/d or are/were active in Israel (below: “The archives”), and the photographic archives of institutions seeking alternative accommodation where visual material of cultural and historical of significance is valued.
2) To preserve and store the archives under superior archival conditions and in keeping with internationally recognized standards.
3) To research the archives and display them in one-person-shows and thematic exhibitions, publicizing the best of the photographs in accompanying catalogues, books, periodicals, and the like.
4) To scan the archival material at the highest standard and publicize it on an Internet Web site, making it available for the use of the general public worldwide. First rate professionals will be consulted regarding the digitizing and preservation of the photographic collections.
5) To display a historical exhibition side-by-side with a relevant contemporary one, in order to create a dialogue between past and present and show contemporary material from a cultural viewpoint and a more comprehensive perspective.
6) To advance the field of historical research through, among other mediums, that of photography, while relating to the visual arts and relevant disciplines in the humanities.
7) To make the Center available for study and research to academics, curators, historians, students, and the public at large.
8) To collaborate with organizations and institutions in Israel and worldwide that house photographic archives relating to Israel and its surrounds, the country’s history and the various nations living there.
9) To collaborate with organizations and institutions in Israel and worldwide which have an interest in researching the annals of photography or which explore their local history through the visual prism.
10) To raise and allocate funds for the financing of the Center’s activities by approaching government bodies, private donors, and public and private foundations in Israel and abroad.
